Console Table Dimensions: Height, Depth & Width Guide

How tall, deep, and wide should a console table be? Get exact measurements and sizing rules to find the perfect fit for your space.

Standard console tables are 30 inches tall, 30–48 inches long, and 10–14 inches deep. Height is the most consistent dimension — nearly every console table is 29.5–31.5 inches tall so it lines up with door handles and mirrors. Depth and width are where you make the real decisions.

This hub collects every measurement guide on the site so you can size a console table for any room.

Height

Counter height, about 30 inches, is the standard for console tables. It clears most door handles, works with eye-level mirrors, and makes the surface comfortable for leaning on. Taller models around 34 inches suit rooms where you want to tuck stools or shoe racks underneath.

Depth

Depth controls how much walkway the table eats. In a hallway, stay at 12 inches or less; 9.5–11.8 inches is the practical sweet spot for standard entryways, and 6–8 inch ultra-slim models exist for tight corridors. Deeper tables, 14–16 inches, work in larger foyers where space is plentiful.

Width

Use the two-thirds rule: pick a table roughly two-thirds the width of the wall it sits against. A 39-inch table suits 60–70 inch walls, 47 inches suits 70–80 inch walls, and 55–63 inches suits 90+ inch walls. For behind-the-sofa use, match the table to the sofa width minus 8–12 inches per side.
